What is a Cable Modem?
A cable modem is a device that allows access to the internet through a cable outlet as opposed to a telephone line.

How does a Cable Modem work?
It works almost identically to a telephone modem.  The only differences is cable modems connect to a cable outlet instead of a telephone line, and they work much faster.

Will cable modem service slow down during heavy usage periods?

What is the difference between cable modem internet and DSL?
To keep it simple, A cable modem uses your existing cable TV outlets, and DSL uses the phone line.  Cable modem access and DSL both use fiber optics, and both are about the same speed.

Yes.  Both your cable TV service and you High Speed Internet service can be used at the same time.

Does sharing my cable TV service with my Internet connection slow down my Internet access?

What do I do if I have to format my hard drive, or if I purchase a new computer?
All you should have to do is hook the modem up to the computer as it was before.  There are some rare instances where this will not work.  If hooking the modem up to the computer does not get you back online give us a call at (770) 969-3481.

Why am I having problems with online gaming, conferencing, and/or Dial-Pad (or similar application)?
The reason for this is that you are accessing the Internet via our cable modem, which is protected by our firewall, which masks its IP address and restricts incoming data for security reasons.  For these applications you may want to consider adding a Static IP address to your service package.  For more information contact us either by email at support@fairburnutilities.org or call us at (770) 969-3481.
